With her sculptures and installations, the Düsseldorf-based artist Carol Pilars de Pilar (b. 1961) addresses fundamental questions of our society. This book introduces her works entitled Alltag und Passage, which combine texts, images, and sculptures into a multifaceted large-scale art installation. Mounted on concrete plinths and slender steel supports, the artist has created clay figurines that are representative of society in all its breadth and diversity. The types and characters displayed range from young to old, from male to female, and include trans bodies, as well as black, brown and white figures.
The installation also features texts based on interviews addressing key issues facing our society. Carol Pilars de Pilar invited six interviewees to participate, recording and transcribing their answers. In conjunction with the collages and sculptures, they contribute to the associative web of meanings her work evokes.
This book presents a large number of installation views and includes excerpts from the interviews conducted by the artist.
