Born in Weimar, which was still in the GDR at the time, Bianca Baierl painted early on against the "gray" of socialism. After the fall of the Wall, she went to the West and studied textile design at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld, then later painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Essen and the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
Her large-format, sometimes room-filling paintings and installations are characterized by an explosive use of color. Many of them provoke through a sometimes deliberate naivety, through compositional chaos and shrill colorfulness.
The catalog presents works from the last five years and provides insight into Baierl's creative process through numerous photographs from the artist's studio.
