Britta Lenk’s work Short Time Long While, which this book introduces in detail with the help of texts and pictures, consists of a “set” of different concrete forms as well as rectangular and round shapes made of colored glass that combine into a wide variety of possible compositions.
This approach of dealing with different elements can be described in terms of a process: positioning, placing, leaning, stacking, propping, layering … Its purpose is not the creation of temporary small sculptures, however, but rather the possibility of random and unpremeditated action.
For Lenk, this work is a mental as well as physical exercise, an inspiration geared towards construction, and an act of potentially constant deconstruction. In that sense, it is a permanent work in progress – one that is indeterminate because the images of the combinations included in the catalog do not represent the final work, but merely one of its many possible manifestations.
