The Fotobus Society, founded by Christoph Bangert, is a network of over 1,700 photographers studying at German, European, and international media and photography schools. The society offers its members an extensive range of cultural and social activities. At the heart of the community is a 30-year-old bus that regularly takes members to photo festivals, symposia, and specialist events—and also doubles as a mobile photography school.
The book is the fifth volume in a series that showcases selected works by the members and thus provides a fascinating insight into the world of young photography. This edition explores the topic of “home.” Many of the 34 photographers here featured investigate complex feelings of belonging in their work. At times home is associated with pain, sometimes the idea of home is politically charged, and sometimes it is remote and intangible. The memory of home can be evoked through various modalities: certain people, smells, colors, or even the taste of a soup.
