Harald Gnade's paintings are dominated by biomorphic, materially accentuated, often monochrome bodies of colour or landscape fragments. His paintings are mostly created under the influence of natural philosophy and are symbolically reminiscent of mosses, sponges and vegetation, of ephemeral clusters in an algorithmic duct.

The book brings together works from 2010 to 2020 that underline Gnade's flexible way of seeing and understanding. The artist loves to remain in limbo: sometimes he emphasises the surface constitution of his paintings, then again he orients towards depth. In his latest compositions, it is noticeable that they have been conceived in a more abstract and autonomous way compared to earlier works. Through the use of varnishes, Gnade creates reflective mirror surfaces that open up endless spaces with ever new perspectives and literally and symbolically hold up a mirror to the viewer.

The illustrated book accompanies the exhibition at Galerie Tammen, Berlin.
