"Ambiopia", the title of the catalog, captures a core of Heike Weber's work: the examination of the phenomenon of perception. Weber connects this with her central artistic theme: the preoccupation with drawing and the line, which is as incessant as it is unusual in its implementation. In doing so, she goes far beyond the use of drawing pencil and paper. In her work, Weber takes the line into the third dimension, filling walls, rooms and places with installations of drawings. In doing so, she also repeatedly leaves the familiar terrain in her choice of materials. The aesthetic appeal of her works often comes from materials that are not found in artists' shops, but in construction and hobby markets or in everyday life: Hair nets and the finest silicone strands, for example, window paints, adhesive tapes, or clotheslines form seemingly endless patterns of lines. Weber frees all these "raw materials" for a moment from the norms of their use. They become large-format images of the finest structures, occupying floors and walls. The result is works that effortlessly unite the supposedly incompatible genres of drawing, relief, sculpture, and installation.
The catalog is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn (October 27, 2022 to January 15, 2023).
