Irmgart Wessel-Zumloh (Lennestadt 1907-1980 Iserlohn) was one of the leading German artists of the post-war period. Through the fusion of abstract and organic elements, she developed a striking artistic language between non-objective informal art and rigorously figurative motifs. While her oil paintings from the 1930s onwards are still New Objectivity and can be classified as classical landscape painting, her later works display a heightened expressiveness.
The publication focuses on the artist and her work, as well as the theme of still life and the aesthetics of everyday life. In particular, paintings from 1945 to 1975 are grouped together and presented both chronologically and thematically.
The catalog accompanies the exhibition at Museum Schloss Cappenberg in Selm (22.10.2023 to 07.04.2024).
