The artist Johanna von Monkiewitsch (born in Rome in 1979, grew up in Germany) works with the question of image and reality. Above all, she is interested in the materialization of light. Her artistic work includes sculptural works, installations, photography as well as canvas and video works. In the process, a few elements appear again and again: paper, for example, on which a color reflex or a shadow can be seen; a light installation that projects filmed sunlight onto the wall or allows it to move through the room; or concrete reliefs, on each of which a surface has been applied with pigment, the shape of which corresponds to the shadow cast by the relief itself.
The catalog accompanies Monkiewitsch's exhibition at Kunsthalle Bremerhaven and provides a comprehensive overview of the artist's work.
