Lukas Zerbst, born in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, initially studied digital media before he switched to art. Since 2012, he has been involved in various theater productions as set designer, musician, and performer at venues such as the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, the Fillmore Theater in Miami, or the AURA International Dance Festival in Kaunas.

Owing to his close connection to the theater scene, Zerbst at first devoted himself to the medium of performance to express his art. Over the last years, he has increasingly created site-specific, temporary installations. Many of his experimental arrangements and media performances are characterized by everyday objects, spaces, or items that have been manipulated by means of light or mechanical devices. In Zerbst’s work, the artist is no longer a genius, but rather an operator who develops visual and acoustic solutions – manually or technically. The potential conclusion that a technically generated image, and the technical process of producing it, is of greater value than a manual one is itself cleverly challenged by the artist’s unconventional bricolage-like aesthetics.
