Year after year, Frankfurt am Main gets bigger, taller and more built-up. Alongside the traditional lanes, famous houses and squares, the city is constantly changing. The cityscape is characterised by countless construction sites, diversions and barriers. Huge cranes are a constant feature of the skyline. Behind wooden walls, construction fences and safety barriers, another world begins, shielded from the noise of traffic and the hustle and bustle of the city. At night, when even the largest construction site comes to a brief standstill, Niko Neuwirth (1977-2022) sets out to climb these very cranes or buildings. His photographs show Frankfurt from above. His images contain the tense, tingling, mysterious atmosphere of the night. He reveals fine details, surprises with daring perspectives, reports on places that have never been seen before and shows insights that are not visible during the day. He tells of his exciting excursions full of contrasts, between inside and outside, below and above, arriving and being on the way again. A unique homage to urban landscape photography and the beauty of the ever-changing city of Frankfurt.
