This publication documents Witten Town Hall after its structural refurbishment, which was completed in 2025. Built a century ago, decades of wear and tear had resulted in a considerable need for renovation, which threatened the very existence of the listed ensemble unless quick and efficient countermeasures were taken.
Now the building, which is visible from all sides, has been restored to its former functional splendor: as a contemporary address for local democracy, citizen services and municipal administration for the coming decades.
Until the destruction of the Second World War, Witten had an intact, historically grown town centre, not least in terms of its Wilhelminian scale and beauty. The radius of the urban development plans therefore extends further and also includes those urban development projects that will define the urban space of the neighbouring districts in the near future. Their perspectives are also presented, condensed in the Rathausquartier 21+, with assessments, plans and drafts.
