In 2023, when the 250th anniver- sary of the founding of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf was cel- ebrated in a variety of project and exhibition formats, the Philara Collection mounted a comprehensive, two-part exhibition of works by the classes of Professor Sabrina Fritsch and Profes- sor Franka Hörnschemeyer. A particular concern of the pro- ject was to provide students and recent graduates with a suit- able setting for encounters and exchanges. Two classes were invited to participate in a joint exhibition, for which a curatorial principle based on dialogue was developed.
Reacting with particular sensitivity to the historical, architectural, and social circumstances of the Philara Collection and its location in a former glassworks, the artists responded with new works and interventions that exposed the veneer of the institution, or enhanced it with new tracks, commentaries, and contexts. This publication seeks to capture glimpses of the various states, emotional responses, and forms shown in the exhibition, in all their fragmentary detail.
