Wolfgang Folmer (*1960 in Merzig) works across a range of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and video. Over decades, Folmer has developed an original position in contemporary art. His series, created over long periods of time, testify to seriousness, precision and a desire for knowledge. Yet Folmer's art is anything but complaisant. The linchpin of his art is, quite simply, reality. Reality in all its facets, in its beauty and cruelty, in its truthfulness and its appearance. The apparent harmlessness of his playful compositions reinforces the human abysses that open up there. Despite the different pictorial media, numerous common threads hold his art together – not least a subtle and recurring irony as well as the light-heartedness or cheerfulness of the pictorial language, which is often diametrically opposed to the themes dealt with.

The catalog presents Folmer's extensive oeuvre in detail and is published to accompany the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Reutlingen (25.11.2023 to 03.03.2024).
